There are a wide range of rigid box models that are used in packaging and this varies from industry and application.

Rigid box manufacturing is a niche and a value driven business.
We can primarily divide a rigid box manufacturing project into two categories;
In both cases, the equipment needed, the production planning, the raw material procurement and the sales strategies involved are completely different.
When high volume boxes are limited to certain models and driven by automation and streamlining certain raw materials, the short run segment is more manpower intense and needs more flexibility in the production process than productivity.
This is one of the first things you need to have clarity with before starting your rigid box manufacturing business.

All rigid boxes will have two main elements. The covering material or the outer part and the hard base or the inner part.
The process involved in decorating the covering material involves printing, foil stamping, embossing, die cutting etc. In certain cases, the outer cover may be laminated, however today there are materials so soft and sustainable that there is no need for lamination.
The hard base goes through a different journey. The hard base is first die cut or notched using a v-groove machine. A v-groove is better than die cutting because of the flexibility in production planning and the better quality output.
One the hard base is notched, it is then formed into a tray by either stitched the corners with a heat tape or glue. This depends on the machines used to form the tray.
The final process is where we wrap the covering material around the hard base tray giving us the finished product. Depending on the aesthetic requirement of the final product, there will be other processes involved, but the above are the bare minimum processes needed to make a complete rigid box.
